About Mark Cross

Mark Cross, news editor for Scunny.net, where I cover developments around British Steel, the local community, and the future of green steel production in our town.

With 16 years of hands-on experience as a blastfurnace man at the Scunthorpe steelworks, I bring real-world insight to the stories that matter. After leaving the works, I founded my own advertising business and later became a director of a telecoms company specialising in SMS advertising, premium-rate services, and interactive media campaigns across TV, print, online, and social platforms.

I returned to the steel industry as a committed Community Union Health, Safety, and Workplace Rep, proudly representing workers across the site and the blastfurnace branch for the past 16 years. I’m passionate about health and safety, environmental issues, and the political and legal landscape that shapes the steel sector.

My goal at Scunny.net is to inform, represent, and highlight the voices of workers and residents as we move toward a greener industrial future.
