Scunthorpe – In a significant boost for the local economy, British Steel has announced plans to create 180 new jobs as part of a major production expansion at its Scunthorpe plant.
The move comes as the company aims to ramp up output to meet growing demand for steel in infrastructure and construction projects across the UK. The new positions will cover a range of roles, including skilled engineers, technicians, and production operators.
“This is fantastic news for Scunthorpe and the wider region,” said a British Steel spokesperson. “These new jobs will not only support our production goals but also provide valuable opportunities for local workers and apprentices.”
The recruitment drive is expected to begin in the coming weeks, with British Steel partnering with local training providers to ensure candidates have the necessary skills. The company has also pledged to invest in further modernizing its Scunthorpe operations, reinforcing its commitment to the town as a key steel-producing hub.
North Lincolnshire Council leaders have welcomed the announcement, calling it a “vote of confidence” in the area’s industrial workforce.
